The trip to Wisconsin was fantastic. I really needed the long weekend. We've been making this trip once or twice a year for at least five years and for some reason this was the best ever. I wish I could put my finger on why.
Here's a dirty little secret about me: I don't think William Shakespeare is the greatest author that ever put pen to paper. Quel horror! So, when I walked out of The Merchant of Venice giddy with delight I think my mood spilled over into the rest of the weekend. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Hi Beth - I found your blog through your LL website. I love your yarn. I'm knitting with it for the first time making a baby surprise jacket out of the Shepard's worsted in icehouse. I'm looking for a good solid color that I could use for an i-cord border around the sweater. I'd also like to experiment on a second jacket alternating icehouse with another solid color (row of variegated, row of solid). I'd love to have your recommendations on what solid colors I should combine with icehouse. It's hard for me to tell with the photos of the colors on the web.
I've also just ordered some sport weight in envy and mixed berry to see how that yarn works in BSJ. As you can see, I'm totally into baby surprise jackets right now.

We love the BSJ around here too! It's so fun to knit. Elizabeth Zimmerman was a genius, wasn't she?
As far as colors go....If I were feeling like green, I'd go with #20ns Pine or #6ns Douglas Fir. If you are leaning towards keeping things more in the blue family, I would go with #41ns Pond Blue (very safe) or #51 Island Blue (very bold).

Thanks so much for doing the demo at Stitches! It was great fun and also very awesome to walk away with something I could knit with (and not something to fill out my stash - like it needs it). Quick question: I know we used synthetic dyes, but do you know of any organic dyes?
p.s. I love that there are yarns named after Chicago neighborhoods.
Hi Beth - thanks for the color recommendations. That helps a lot. I ordered Douglas Fir to try with icehouse. I also ordered some other colors that I just liked and am not yet sure what I'm going to do with them (chocolate, cranberry, and manzanita). I love your variegated colors, but I really love, love your solid colors.

There are lots of companies that sell natural dyes. Earthues or Gfriffin Dyeworks are two you might want to check out.
