Loopy Legends

A couple of months ago, Sheri from The Loopy Ewe contacted me about a special project. You see, over there at The Loopy Ewe, they have a select group of customers called Loopy Legends and Sheri asked us to dye up colors in their honor.

While we do custom colors for shops regularly. Most of the time the LYS owner has a pretty good idea of what they want for a custom color. We often start from their logo or shop colors. Sometimes we do team colors. Or they send in a photo for us to use as a starting point. Then we send them several samples and they pick the one they like.

This was a memorable request because we were basically let loose and told to go nuts! We were given very loose direction, “Here are the colors that go in this colorway – we’ll look forward to getting these in your interpretation of it.” They didn't want samples...we just got to play in the dyepots! I can't even begin to tell you how much fun it was.

There were twenty four colors in all. I'll give you a peek at three but you should really go take a look at them all for yourself on the Loopy Legends page.

This is MomSue's Yellowstone Sunset.

Linda's Antique Treasures

Amy's Double Play

I can't decide which one is my favorite. I'm leaning a bit towards Ronni's Jewel Box. Or maybe Debbie's Autumn Joy. There's always Wendy's Ferns and Toadstools....Help me pick! Which do you like best?

  1. I like the top one best, but only because it has some purple in it. I love purple and it's so hard to find a good purple in yarn. You get lilac, you get lavender, you get a purple so deep it looks black. And then for hand-dyes like these, someone is always throwing pink in there! We're not all 7 years old. Okay. Purple lover's rant over. heh-heh-heh I do love LL yarn, though, and knit socks from it all the time.

  3. I love Theresa's Italian Vineyards cause they remind me of holidays in Autumn in Italy and the colour combination of Cathy Cate's Hither & yarn is fab!!

  4. Antique Treasures or Island Time...Island Time is like a party for the eyes, loving it :)

Great colour series. Going to have to treat myself to some I think, even with the shipping to Ireland. Totally worth it!

  7. We love the way these all turned out! I have to say, my husband (who color corrects and tweaks the Loopy yarn photos every week - so you know he sees TONS of yarn) said, "Wow - that batch of yarn for the Loopy Legends was really beautiful. Very eye-catching." So that's high praise, coming from a non-knitting, graphic-designer, professional photographer. He doesn't comment on the different yarn very often. (Well, except to say, "Who keeps ordering all of this??")

  10. I am SO happy for you that you got asked to create new colorways for that exclusive group! I'm leaning toward Carolina Morning or the Italian Vineyards ones.
I totally adore how you name your yarns. I wish you had more backstories posted on the inspiration behind the names. I'm so glad to have found out Pullman's.
