The yarn is yummy. It's a bulky weight with a super tight twist. Around here, we call that "sproingy". And I'm going to say it's a "technical" term. Or at least as technical as we're ever going to get. It's pictured here undyed, but we'll be dyeing it all of our colors.
So, the details. This is 90% superwash merino and 10% nylon. Why nylon, you ask? Well here's the logic: There isn't enough nylon in it to make the hand of the yarn feel any different than 100% merino, but that much nylon will make the yarn nice and strong. So, if you are the sort that loves a nice knit slipper, this yarn would be perfect.
Perhaps Cadeautje by Ysolda.
Of course the yarn isn't just about slippers, it's also be a fine choice for a nice chunky sweater or a fabulous hat and mittens or scarves or .... You name it, this will work. I swoon when I think what will happen to cables or of curling up under a toasty blanket made with this yarn.
Perhaps something like Susan Hanlon's Stylish Squares Blanket?
Between the superwash and the nylon, a blanket would be pretty bullet proof.
This will knit up at about 3.5 sts/inch. A 100g hank witll have 120 yards. Lovely, don't you agree?
I think that about covers the details. Except for the name. Can you help?
Email your suggestion to contest@lornaslaces.net. We'll narrow it down to the top three when I get back from vacation on December 1 and then we'll put it up for a vote. Winner will get a bag of the new yarn in the color of their choice.
Pretty sweet don't you think?

Why not call it "Sproingy"!
"So Twisted "seems like a good name!
How about Big Bounce, Bounce, Lofty, Arise, Frisky, Gambol, Frolic, Flexy, Ricochet?
How about Plush?
How about "Busy Bee" as it's so hardy and hard working?
It's irreverent, but what about "sproingmate" to keep in theme with solemate and sportmate?
French Cream
Beauteous
Wooly Warm, says it all.
I like "sproing".
Call it "Heaven"!
Big Bounce. Or Bounce House.
The first picture made me think of whipped cream. So whipped cream...or meringue. (I have dessert on the mind).
Snow Storm
Shepherd Bulky
('cuz that's what it is!)
What about 'clouds' in another language?
I like "cloud " I just thought of " spring form" too, because it is springy.
Looking at the slippers photo, I thought of Stomp or Stompy, since you could do that with nice, thick socks. P,us the idea of Stompy yarn makes me grin. :)
How about "Creme" with the accent over the first "e" ala French (accent grave). To me it evokes soft and cushy, homey yet rich.
I say Chicago - its beautiful but tough!!!
Twist and Stout! :)
"Call it What You Want"- just let me know when it's ready to order!
Snug.
Supple twist
Tuffy
Sprung Spring
I suggest "Hygge." It's a Danish word that means "coziness" but more specifically, it infers a coziness that comes from fluffy blankets and sweaters, warm beverages, fireplaces, and family. I think it would be perfect for this yarn.
My suggestion is Vigor. Looks like a wonderful yarn!
I would call it Notable.
Ice Queen would be my choice.
This is a yarn for the outdoors. You should call it 606 after the new Bloomingdale Trail.
You make it sound "Scrumptious!", "Soufflé", "Insouciant", "Delicious!"
Inspired by others' suggestions, I'd go with Snuggle, or Hug(s).
My first thought since with the added nylon, it's a hard working, stronger yarn but hasn't lost it's softness is to name it after the city we adore that has the same attributes. Windy City & Lake Effect came to mind first then playing with names of local attractions, I thought of the magnificent mile. I think you should name this yarn Magnificent. :)
How about 'Luscious', 'Whisp' (as in whispy clouds) or even 'Whisper'. Then there's 'Squish', 'Softie!', and my husband has just said 'Lollipop'!! :)
Or 'Cumulous' a type of cloud.. Or 'Marshmallow'
Burly OR
I have a new rescue dog (Daphne) and she is about 2 years old. She needed to put on a little weight but then we noticed it was starting to be a little too much. My husband keeps calling her JunkyTrunky (b/c she is getting some junk in her trunk). That's the first thing I thought of but I don't know if you want to name your yarn Junky!
Daydream or Sumptuous :)
"ahhhh"
Warmth
Lorna's Laces Luscious has a nice ring.
I'm already coveting this yarn! It looks like the perfect solution for getting through yet another harsh winter in the city. With that in mind, my first thoughts are:
Snowpocalypse
Chiberia
Polar
Blanket
How about something based off of Lornas' home base:
Brown Line
Montrose
Loft
Ravenswood
Raven
Or, based off the yarn's bulk/strength/twist:
Aplenty
Bundle
Cushion
Muchness
Fierce
Heft
Twist
Or for quickness with which it will fly off the needles, how about:
Rocket
Zippy
Sprint
Or just simply ...
Divine
I would say Cream Puff.
How about "Cloud Nine"?
(I am also tempted to suggest "Buxom", but not sure how p.c. that would be ...)
In keeping with the theme of the other yarns, I suggest "Chunkmate." Think of it as "chunky" weight meets "Checkmate" unbeatable quality/washability/sproinginess.
Cloudgate? Maintains the hometown pride and that yarn looks super squishy. Like clouds!
How about Marshmellow Cream
I keep thinking of the sound a spring makes in a cartoon -- "Boing Boing"!
Comfort
Above, you mentioned bulletproof in regards to a blanket. "FireArm" sure sounds like a fitting name to me.
Border Collie, cuz that 10% nylon is gonna work hard to keep the 90% merino in check. If you have ever lived with a border collie you know exactly what I'm talking about
Big Shoulders (city of...)
Trampoline.
How about "Sproing has Sprung"?
I would call it "Stoic"because it will be able to endure hardship and wear and tear without showing signs of breaking down. This word that starts with S goes with Solemate and Sportmate. I cannot think of another yarn anywhere that is called Stoic and this would be an added feature.
Maggie or Mrs. Daley after the first lady of Chicago or Maggs
I suggest "Icecycle" for strength, clarity, and meltingly soft
"Swoon" seems appropriate to me.
How about TooTwisted!!!
Twirled
Resilience. Lorna's Laces Resilience.
Mucho Merino! Chubby Sheep! Robust! Plushmate! Soulmate! SuperSheep! Sproing! Smore! Posh! Plush! Lavish! Lush! Magical! Abundant!
Watertower Place
It even withstood the Chicago Fire
I say"Perfecto' as it seems perfect to me!
Wooly-tex
how about "Force" and may the Force be with you and all of us!
Spring ?
Simple, and accurate :-)
How about Heavenly?
Spring
Burro (that in italian means butter)
Tuttapanna (that in italian means milk cream)
The Big Squish
I would call it "Springing Snow"
Honeycomb
